A Broken Chair
At the end of last week, I was taking my final assembly with one half of the current year eleven before they go on study leave. The theme of the assembly was on 'stress'. Assemblies with year eleven are usually quite enjoyable for me to do - plus they are done in the Merlin Theatre which is a fabulous venue. At one point I picked up
a chair on one side of the stage and threw it gently (or so I thought) to the ground - where it proceeded to slide along what I quickly discovered to be quite a frictionless floor literally over to the other side of the stage and stop next to an uplighter (a theatre one, not a homely thing from Argos!). The chair also - I'm sorry to say - broke! it was one of those typical school plastic ones. the corner just snapped right off! At times like this I am thankful to be known by some as 'the king of tenous links'!
After the assembly Vicky West, the ATL (Achievement Team Leader), thanked me in front of everyone for the assemblies I'd done for that year group, and presented me with... the corner of the plastic chair to keep as a memento of the time working with them.
So I shall keep my broken corner bit of chair and use it fondly - as what, I don't know - probably a door stop!
